Credit Card Fraud and Finding the Thief

Has anyone ever had someone open a or many credit cards under their name and racked up charges? What did you do and what happened?

I have a situation and need some helps on what to do. I had someone open three credit cards under my name. Discover, Amex, and Capital One. 8k from Discover, 7k from amex, and $500 from Capital One. I just got a call from collection after a couple months of this happening. The reason for that is the statements have been sent to various different addresses from different city and then to different state. It took them awhile to get to the real me. I told them I didn't do it and of course, they sorta don't believe it and believed it. They told me to go to the police which I did, and they just had me fill out various papers and that's about it. I'm assuming that the credit card companies will just close it and charge it off, but I really want to know why they won't help me pursue the case to find out who did it including the police. Can't I go about finding out by looking at the transactions from the statments? Will the CC companies help me find out about the transactions? Help me, I want to do know who and how they can do it.

  1. Its sad but you really dont get much help from police and the collectors dont care, you need to dispute this with credit bureaus and send them a copy of the police report, also demand that they show you the original signature from the first application, you shouldn't be responsible for this but it happens all the time.

  2. You need to make a police reports about credit card fraud that your name has been used by somebody or strangers to open credit cards account. Then inform the credt card companies that you never own the credit cards and should not be held accountable for these fraud transactions.

Worst come worst, you have to engage a lawyer to handle this matter for you.
