So, someone somehow got my discover card number (in Kansas, a place I know nobody and have never been to) and charged $100 dollars 13 times on Sprint phone cards. the card has already been canceled, how can I clear my name of all this? I am in the military is there any thing that can help me out here?

  1. Your best option would be to contact your credit card company.

  2. If it's a personal credit card, you're on your own.  Most of times they will require you to write a written statement about it and what happened, how you discovered it, etc...  More then likely they will front the cost if they see you didn't charge it.  However if it's your government travel card then they're going to be in a world of hurt and if you talk to your first shirt/orderly room then can help you out.  Otherwise personal affairs are yours to deal with and the government won't get involved in them.

  3. There is a procedure to follow to contest any or all credit card transactions and they will be removed immediately and if they turn out to be fraudulent, will stay off your record.

The rules might be different for a debit card.  I don't know.

Hint:  Don't buy anything on line, don't pay at the pump for gas,  and get a new card issued every few months whether you lose it or not.

  4. The credit card company should have a fraud department that handles all of that. My husband's card number was stolen somehow and the person charged $10, 000 in 3 days. The cc company caught it and they took it all off and handled everything for us.
