Question:

Credit Card at 16?

My mom wants me to get my own credit card because she is tired of me asking for hers, and wants me to start building my credit score. I want to get a credit card with our insurance company, state farm, but i cant unless i am 18. is there any way i can get a credit card, say if my mom were to co-sign or something. I have read a few questions here already, and most people just say it will put you in debt, or to just get a debit card. i want to say beforehand that i am perfectly aware that i could accumulate debt, and that a credit card works out better than a debit card for me because i am a tight-*** and i will spend the same amount of money either way. A credit card would also give me money that i may not have at the moment if i need it (Need, not want), and it will help build up my credit.

P.S.I just realized how much i typed for one simple question, but i jsut wanted to stress the fact that i know what i would be getting into and i am prepared for it.

  1. NO, I DON'T THINK SO.

  2. You only have 3 options

    1. Wait until you're 18

    2. Be an authorized user on an adult's account

    3. Get a pre-paid card (www.vanillamastercard.com)

You cannot legally start building credit until you're 18 and it cannot be extended to anyone under 18. Get a pre-paid card and give it a whirl so you'll know what credit is like.

    Only you won't get a bill cuz it's pre-paid :)

  3. you can get a credit card only if your mom co-signs for it. See if the site below helps you in finding a card you like.
