Question:

Credit Card (cancelling)?

I did a credit card application yesterday, and now I'm thinking that I really don't want another card. (stupid, I know) I'm still a student so I don't need anymore cards, I don't think my dad will be too happy that I'm getting another card either haha.

How do I cancel it? Do I just wait until the card arrives in the mail, then just call the number, cut it up and cancel it? I read somewhere that I can write to them (instead of calling?) When the card arrives, I technically still would have to activate it, right? What would happen if I don't ever activate it, would it expire/cancel itself? How is this going to affect my credit score/history (not activating it vs. calling to cancel) Which is best? I'm 99% sure I won't be using this card much at all (by using, I mean maybe once a yr)

Please help me!

  1. you will have to wait for the new card to arrive then call the # on the back of the card to speak with customer service and cancel.  just not activating the card will NOT close the account. you need to make the call.

  2. I think you need to go ahead and call now because if you wait till it gets to you then your membership fees and stuff will be already charged to that card and then you will have to pay that before you cancel so I would go ahead and call now!!!!

  3. call now and cancel and double check once the card comes, call now, operators are standing by
