Question:

Credit Card for student?

by  |  earlier

I am a college senior and I want to get a credit card to build good credit. I have a part time job, and I am very good with money. I was wondering if anyone could tell me what I need to look for in a credit card, and maybe which ones are best for students. I do not have any credit, so will this be a problem when applying for one? Thank you,

  1. Capital One has a student card.  You need to call them and tell them you're a full-time student and would like a card with the lowest interest rate possible.  They gave my son one at 9.9% and he had no credit either.  Now, he's built good credit and it was because Capital One helped.

Just make sure you always pay MORE THAN the minimum and make sure you don't use all the credit.

    Hope this helps

  2. Building credit is the biggest joke of the 21st century.  It will bring you nothing but debt. Credit cards and the fico score was designed by banks to get you into debt and keep you in debt. Just look at the way it works.

To get a high fico score you have to borrow money and make payments on time. To keep your score high. You also, have to keep borrowing money and keep making payments on time. It's an "I Love Debt" score.

If you pay as you go. If you live on less money than you make. You will NOT have payments. You WILL HAVE money and not have to worship at the alter of the great fico.

  3. You can get a student credit card fairly easily and you should look for points like:

    1. No APR for six months or so.

    2. Getting reward points for good GPA

    3. Low APR after the introductory offer ends.

    4. No Annual Fee

    5. Other reward points.

Make sure your APR doesn't exceed some 16 or 17% after their offer ends. Many companies try to rip you off by offering 0% first and then increasing the APR and s******g your happiness.

  4. You need to build your credit score in todays society unless you are pulling in 250000 or more a year.  Citi and Chase both have good student cards. http://creditcardwarehouseonline.com has some others you can compare.
