Question:

Credit Score? Help?

Me and my husband are married and he's very ill. He hasn't paid for many things that are on his credit such as a leased car, some furniture and other things. I was wondering, if he passed away, would I have to pay for the things he didn't pay for? Well we are both married but my husband and I have different credit scores. He has brought those things under his name NOT mine. Does this make any difference. This is all new to me.

  1. You've already asked the same question. My answer is still the same.

  2. It depends on how he's sorted his legal obligations out or not.

If you're his power of attorney then you would be obligated to make sure that his debts are satisfied. This is applicable if due to incapacitation due to death or illness.

Even though the debts were individually incurred it is in your best interest to try and settle them, as his wife.

In the event of his passing, his estate will pay for them provided he has life insurance and disolvable assets (real estate, bank accounts, etc....)

  3. Depends.

As long as you do not live in a community property State like AZ, CA, ID, LA, NV, NM, TX, WA or WI your husbands estate will be responsible for the debt not you.

And as long as you do not live in one of the above States there is no way this can affect your credit score as long as your name is not on the contracts.

  4. your married and it will effect you credit if it is not paid for on time .

you might want to call a credit councilor . lots are free of charge
