It starts once anything is used with your SSN.  SO when you get a job.... open a bank account... get a loan.. anything.

Sounds like you are just starting out using credit, you should read this article on building your credit, http://www.monitorbankrates.com/how-to-b... the best advice I can give is don't get in over your head and pay your credit cards off every month if you can.

It can start with the extension of credit and/or of opening a financial account. It can be a direct deposit (savings/chequing) account, a credit card, a loan, a mortgage, etc...
