Credit Union Challenge: English Olivia Jordan-Higgins grabs second position in first round
English Olivia Jordan-Higgins, who finished tied for the eighth position at the Northeast Delta Dental International 2012, got off to solid start at the Credit Union Challenge as she fired a 65 in the opening round to take the second spot on the lead.
The Credit Union Challenge, a Symetra Tour tournament, is being played at Capital Hills, Albany, with a formidable roster featuring key players including defending champion Sydnee Michaels of the United States.
The English star faced tough resistance from her nearest rival Misun Cho, who shot a stunning 64 to seize an early lead, but she held her nerve most of the day and played a natural game.
Although Higgins could not impress her fans in the 2011 season, the current season has definitely seen her show some real skills on the course. Her most momentous performance was recorded in the Northeast Delta Dental International, held at Concord, where she finished tied for the eighth position on the leaderboard, pocketing $2,364.
The Sara Bay Classic, which was played in April this year, also proved lucky for her, although she could not finish inside the top 10. Higgins carded an overall score of 225 to tie for the 12th position.
Analysts said that grabbing the second position in the opening round of the ongoing Credit Union Challenge will help the English golfer play an even better game in the next two rounds.
The second round can prove to be tricky, as the weather conditions stayed calm and players will be trying to capitalise on it by scoring well.
Analysts also pointed out that the prominent stars could not prove their worth in the first round of the Symetra Tour event, but they have what it takes to beat the odds.
On the other hand, the defending champion Sydnee Michaels could not finish the first round in the top 20 as she fired a decent 69. Michaels played well on Friday, as she did not let her nerve overcome her.
Although regarded as the hot favourite contender for the Credit Union Challenge, Michaels found it hard to move up in the leaderboard positions, and finished tied for 25th position.  American Jessi Gebhardt carded a 71 to tie for the 51st position on the leaderboard.
