Credit Union Challenge to feature strong roster
The Credit Union Challenge is set to start from August 3-5, at Capital Hills, Albany with a strong field packed with plenty of talented players.
The Credit Union Challenge is a Symetra Tour event, and has been around since 2000. The tournament has had several names since its first edition. The last year’s edition was played with the name, Price Chopper Tour Championship, which has now been changed to the Credit Union Challenge.
The field for the tournament is fearsome, as there are many players who have proved their worth on the Symetra Tour before. More importantly, all the players in the roster will be eyeing the LPGA (Ladies Professional Golf Association) Tour card.
Key players who are set to kick off this week include Catherine Matranga of the United States, Libby Smith, Taylor Collins, Lisa Ferrero, Joanna Coe, Calle Nielson, Emily Flanigan, Kendall Wright, Kirby Dreher, Laura Crawford, Jamie, Hullett, Jennifer Hong and others.
American Sydnee Michaels, who won the last edition of the prestigious tournament, has surprised her fans after confirming her intention to play the event. Michaels has vowed to defend her title — something sure to make the event livelier.
The American star gave a miss to the last week’s Evian Masters, held in France, which gave her an opportunity to put her skills to the test at Capital Hills.
Analysts said that participation of Michaels will surely make the event more interesting, as she has what it takes to trouble rivals. Speaking to the media about what it feels like to be at the course where she won last year, the LPGA star said that she is extremely happy to find another chance to prove her mettle on the Symetra Tour.
Moreover, the last years’ runner-up American Jessi Gebhardt is also in the roster. Gebhardt will be seeking to win the title more passionately than any contender in the roster, as she came close to winning her LPGA Tour card last year.
The star golfer displayed a superb performance, and was brimming with confident when she set foot on the course in the first round. However, a few mistakes in the second round put her in trouble, giving Michaels enough room to surge ahead.
It was a one-stroke defeat, which came as a shock to the Arizona native. Now, with her archrival confirmed in the roster, Gebhardt will want to avoid making the same mistakes this time.
