Can someone tell me what is the Air mile? If I have a credit card which gives the option to convert reward points to air miles, how is it beneficial in booking an airticket?

  1. Agree with what the other answerer said.

I have a card that gives me points on one specific airline.  Over the past several years, I accumulated enough points that I just redeemed them for a ticket to Hawaii.  However, I had to book the ticket about 8 months in advance, otherwise there were no seats.

Other cards allow you to use points on any airline, or have no blackout dates, as the person above said.  But with these cards, you may need to get more points in order to be able to get a ticket.

  2. Different cards have different rules for converting points into miles.  You have to read the rules or call the credit card company.  Some credit card companies say they have no blackout dates for you to travel.  However I think it is still best to book your ticket early if you want to travel since planes are pretty full and lots of people now have miles who also want to cash them to get a free ticket.
