  1. Yes, both are safer than carrying a lot of cash. IMO, it's unsafe to have no cash at all, because you may not be near a place that will take your card, or the card may get damaged and not work... just when you're far from home.

Check with the card company, because they can differ, but generally if a credit card is stolen, you won't be liable for more than $50 of what the thief charges to it. Maybe not even that. I was once robbed and the thief bought less than $20 worth of stuff with it before I reported it (as soon as I got home, an hour after it happened), so the card company didn't make me pay anything.

Debit cards work differently. Used to be, there was no protection, you were liable for the whole thing. But I've heard recently from two different banks that because it's your bank account money, it's insured under FICA, so you'd get it all back. I don't know the specifics of this, but it may take awhile to get the money replaced.

  2. If you lose a credit card, you can always cancel it but it might be too late. The safest thing, is not carry to much cash with you at a time and make sure you credit card or money is in a safe place

  3. Both are equally good because in a hurry you can always get cash. However, if you lose cash you only lose that amount, with debit or credit caeds you can lose much more .

  4. Well with a credit card if its stolen they will hold that charge and if you prove it was stolen usually they will reverse the charge and you wont have to pay it, but debit cards are direct access to your bank account so if someone steals it and uses it comes immediately out of your account and if you report it stolen you will have to wait until the investigation is over and you MAY get your money back, and cash well if you loose it, its gone!

  5. yes they are they are insured and are safer to carry on you because people do not want to steal them since you can easily cancel the charges and are easier to track by the police.
