Like I said, I'm 17, my birthday is on August 7th. Can I get one now? Or do I have to wait? And either way, does anyone one know any good card I can get that would be good for someone trying to build credit? I don't have a job, but in September, I ship out for the Navy, so I will after that. I just want one before that so I can start building credit.

  1. no u can't u have to be 18 or over

  2. I actually used Paypal when I was 17 to get a credit card.

But don't get a creditcard even if you can get one under 18 somehow. I would get a debit card and play it safe.

  3. You are wise to be considering credit issues at 17.

You must be 18 to get a credit card on your own, without a co-signer. See the article on my site, CreditCards.com, on the topic: "Turning 18 and credit cards: Legal rights and responsibilities" http://www.creditcards.com/credit-card-n...

With new credit, the best advice is: Get a card. Use it occasionally. Pay the balance off monthly. Taking those steps will build your credit.

Thank you for your service, and best of luck.

  4. The best card for you to try to get is a student credit card. Some will even say no cosigner required. These are usually for new college students who don't have credit built up but most any younger person can apply. You probably do have to be 18 since you are then considered  an adult. If you want to compare and apply online you can go to a credit card comparison site called http://www.CreditCardWave.com Look under Categories and you will see Student. This will take you to the student credit card section. Good Luck You can apply online and get approved in seconds.
