Why do credit collectors call and treat you like c**p they act like if it's their company that you owe money to. I think they should treat with more respect and concern that life throws your curve balls sometimes. They bug when call and want the half the money hello if I could pay you the payment what makes you think I have any money.

  1. Many collection agency reps get paid on what they collect.  They often resort to tactics that are illegal to collect.  In the end there are legal alternatives you have - including a letter CMRR asking they only contact you through the mail and stating that the calls at home or work are inconvenient.

  2. If they have purchased your defaulted debt, it IS their company that you owe money to.  Yes, they are often rude.  But you got yourself into debt.

  3. I am not a credit collector, but I am a business owner that occasionally has customers that don't pay the bills. Let's turn the situation around, so that maybe you can see the other side.

If I sell something to a customer for say about $100.00. The standard retail margin is 40%, meaning that I paid $60.00 for that item and the $40 of "profit" needs to go into my bank account to pay for rent, utilities, insurance, wages, taxes and all of the other expenses a business has.

Life may have "thrown you a curve ball", but why do I have to suffer and wait for you to get around to pay me? In other words, I have to bail you out because either through unfortunate circumstances or poor financial planning, you can't pay your bills.

It is not fair to me and my employees. If they want half, it doesn't even cover their costs, they are still in the hole.

I give my customers a chance to make things right. If they avoid me, don't live up to their second promise to pay or otherwise flake out, I might be rude. But by that time, I don't want any further business from them. I just want the money that they promised to pay in the first place.

Hope this helps you to see the other side. Good Luck.

  4. Yeah, when I was worse into debt I didn't answer or talk to them when they were mean and rude.  The nice and professional ones I was more than happy to talk to.  I wonder if they know that this is the better way to get in contact with someone.

  5. I hate them too.  They think the more obnoxious they are, the faster you'll pay (to keep from having to hear from them again).

If they are crossing the line into harassment (using threats or profanity), get the name of the company and call back and ask for a supervisor and freak on them about it.  Usually they are less obnoxious after that.

  6. I like when they call, I let all my aggression out on them and scare the c**p out of them...maybe i should be a collector.

  7. That is against the law.  Consult an attorney.

  8. In a way it is their money also, they get a % of what they collect and don't get payed if they don't collect.

I think they thread cause it's a proven concept, people tend to pay if they expect trouble if they don't. Not everybody pays even if they have the money:/

Bad part is that because of those people the threatning is used, so people that actualy have trouble are treated the same as people scamming them and not wanting to pay..

It makes the people that really can't pay right now feel bad when it's not realy needed, not something they can use when they are in trouble already:(

  9. Umm, because you owe them money?

"life throws your curve balls sometimes." - Well, part of life is preparing for those curve balls, it's not their job to feel pitty for you. They want to collect on a debt, that is their only job.

  10. Read up on the Fair Debt Collection Practices Act and understand your rights:

    Prohibited conduct

    # Hours for phone contact: contacting consumers by telephone outside of the hours of 8:00 a.m. to 9:00 p.m. local time[2]

    # Causing a telephone to ring or engaging any person in telephone conversation repeatedly or continuously: with intent to annoy, abuse, or harass any person at the called number.[4]

    # Contacting consumers at their place of employment after having been advised in writing that this is not acceptable[5]

    # Contacting consumer known to be represented by an attorney[6]

    # Contacting consumer after request for validation:

    # Misrepresentation or deceit: misrepresenting the debt or using deception to collect the debt, including a debt collector's misrepresentation that he or she is an attorney or law enforcement officer[8]

    # Publishing the consumer's name or address on a "bad debt" list[9]

    # Seeking unjustified amounts, which would include demanding any amounts not permitted under an applicable contract or as provided under applicable law[10]

    # Threatening arrest or legal action that is either not permitted or not actually contemplated[11]

    # Abusive or profane language used in the course of communication related to the debt[12]

    # Contact with third parties: revealing or discussing the nature of debts with third parties (other than the consumer's spouse or attorney) or threatening such action[13]

  11. Because they can get away with it next time when they call ask them for the mailing address or there fax number and tell them that you are sending them a cease calling letter, go onto your search engine and type in free letter to stop debt collectors from calling and this web site will pull up and you can copy it and paste it onto your Microsoft word or just print it out and retype it and then they will stop calling you at home and also stop selling your account to a third party. Hope this helps!!!!

  12. Most collectors sound mean because it psychs some people into paying whatever money they have to them instead of to others.  They "scare" you into paying.  Until you get to a point where you can pay (and you should work toward that day), you might want to invest in "caller ID" for your phone so that you don't have to listen to all that.  That way you can screen your calls.

  13. I have a question for Tim.

I am also a business manager.  If someone doesn't pay me, I have two options.

I can sit and pout...call them up and threaten them and be terribly rude.....and still not get my money....

Or I could simply file a small claims suit against them, get my money and court costs, and save a lot of aggravation.

So explain to me why you prefer to take the long, hard route of harassing customers and not the simple route of filing a lawsuit?  It's much easier.

  14. I was a collector years ago (although I worked for the credit company, not a collection agency).

I was always respectful to the people I contacted.  They were customers that were having difficulties.  I tried to assist them as best I could.

Unfortunately, collection agencies do not always operate in the same manner.

  15. I GUESS IT'S BECAUSE THEY ARE ANGRY ABOUT HOW MANY PEOPLE IGNORE COLLECTION CALLS AND HANG UP IN THERE FACES..........................HAHA
