Question:

Credit note no refund?

I recently made a purchase for two childrens coats, however when I tried to return them 2 days later, the shop told me I was only entitled to a credit note. Surely this can't be legal.

I have my own company and if any of my customers require a refund, they can do so within 30 days of purchase.

  1. Perfectly legal.  There is absolutely no requirement for a store to take any returns.

  2. You don't say where you are.  In the US, stores are not required to take returns, and they can set their own return/refund policies.

It's fairly common for them to give refunds on items returned with a receipt within a specified period of time, but isn't required.

  3. every company has there own return policy.....theres just happens to be store credit only which you agree to when you purchased the coat (the receipt can be seen as a contract)...many big retailers like best buy or forever 21 have store credit only
