okay my friend wants to know and i dont know how to asnwer her looked online and no help...

she has bad credit.. 3 delinquent credit cards (only a thousand in debt on all three combines but is steadily paying them off and should be done soon..but still it went to a credit agency after she lost her job last year but is now back on her feet..anyhow she wants to get married.. and her husband also a good friend has perfect credit.. shes worried that if they do get married his credit will be ruined. not beause they spend badly but because somehow her credit will ruined his or the credit gets comibned?

i thought his credit score should be okay as long as they dont apply for credit cards together and well as far as the house goes he would be the signer and sole owner..or am i wrong? once your married your credit is refelcted on his? and im not looking for "hypothetically"answers im asking for by law, once your married do you credit deliquencies reflect your spouses or effect it period!

  1. Ok first her bad credit will not affect him at all unless they apply jointly.

So they must qualify on his credit and income for a home.

In most states she will be entitled on the home as a spouse that is not a borrowing spouse but as a joint tenant with rights of survivor-ship.

They will be OK   just tell her to get her credit paid off before the wedding as she doesn't want to bring that baggage into a marriage

I am a mortgage banker in TN & KY

  2. No, the files are separate.

If they apply for credit together, then the joint accounts would show up on both files, but your friend's prior delinquencies will not show up on her husband's file.
