if i get a contract verizon cell phone in my name does that go towards starting my credit?

no no no no no.  Cell phone companies are not granting you credit they are selling you minutes.  The only time cell phone info is reported to the credit bureaus is if you default on the payments and the debt is sold to an outside collection agency.  The outside collection agency reports to the bureau if you do not pay them since they now own the debt.

No it doe's not cell phone companies do not report to the credit bureaus unless your account is sent to collections.

Same applies for electric bills, gas bills, land line phones, trash service, gym memberships and rent.
