I have a couple charge-offs that are killing my credit. Where do I start? I do not have the funds to hire someone, so if anyone can possibly tell me where to begin or how to dispute this, that would be great.

  1. Credit repair process is usually initiated by taking credit report copies of the individual who request the credit repair. The credit report for errors, omissions, and misleading information is viewed and request for corrections to such information by means of a formal dispute is made.

    Best of luck to you.

  3. You start by going to www.annualcreditreport.com Here you will receive a free annual report from each of the bureaus.  Transunion, Equifax and Experian.  You don't need the scores, just the reporting information.

Unless you have a report that isn't older than 60 days., you'll need to get an updated one.  Legally, you are to receive one annual report free of charge from each of the bureaus.

Then once you have that report, make a copy of it.

Highlight the charge-off and see which bureaus it's reporting to.  If it is all three then you'll have to dispute this with each of the bureaus.  Create a letter, it can be generic and enclose a copy of the report with the items in question highlighted.

The bureaus will then contact the creditors.  Usually within 60 days, if they don't hear anything back, the bureau will remove it from your report.  Otherwise, you will get something mailed to you showing that it is in dispute and what the outcome is.

That's all there is to it, and companies out there are charging a bundle for it.  If at first it isn't removed, then try and try again.

    Just my two cents.
