Question:

Crepe Myrtles????? ANYONE?

can anyone tell me if i take some of the little things of a crepe myrtle......you know the things that bloom and plant it......will i get trees? seriously....i want to put some in my front yard and i have a lot of em in the back

  1. no it wount make a new plant, but what you can try is cutting a medium sized woody stem and putting it in a vase with root hormone. wait about a year or until next summer and you should have enough roots to plant it.

    since it doesnt always work you should probably cut 4 stems some smaller and some  larger and see what happens.

    also dont take too many you dont want to make your current tree look bare


  2. Crepe myrtle cuttings will root in water.  Never tried starting them with seeds.

  3. Wait till the "berries" turn brown, then open them and remove the seeds.  Press them into damp potting soil, and keep them damp until they sprout.  Wait until they have leaves, then take them outside to acclimate them.  After about 10 days, you can carefully plant them where you want them, but you'll have to protect them from getting squashed, eaten or too dry.
