Crested gecko?

Question

I have a crested gecko and I've only recently heard about crested gecko diet, which i am now feeding my gecko. But when I was at Petco an employee told them this is the main food they should have, recently I was feeding him crickets as the main food, but the employee told me that crickets are a treat. Is this correct? Also my gecko doesn't seem to like the crested gecko diet much, I haven't seen him eat much, what shuold I do?

i would use the crested gecko diet every day with a couple of dusted crickets !!

petco will tell you anything to get you to buy something...they are all about the money..not the animal.

you can offer baby food too some crested geckos will eat it some wont....most of them will readily feed on crickets and worms though....

you can offer the pellets but i wouldnt make that your main food. most of them wont eat it anyway.

quite a few of the nations top crested gecko  breeders use the C.G.D. with great results. Ive used insects and fruit baby food with great results. either one is fine as a stable. and either one could be used as a "treat".

Crested geckos are fruitarians as well as insectivores, but if you are only feeding crickets and worms, they are not getting the right amount of nutrients they need.

As he isn't used to eating CGD yet, you need to keep feeding him crickets, but dust them with the powder.  THEN mix up the food and rub some on his nose.  Ideally, you should only feed crickets 1-2 times per week and CGD should be offered all the time.

It may take him a while to get completely switched, but it should be something you can do.  CGD was meant to be fed exclusively and really is the best diet out there for cresteds.  Allen Repashy has spent years perfecting it, and it is definitely not just a ploy for Petco to get more money.  Go read any care sheet and people will suggest it.  I use it exclusively and have not yet had a problem converting any gecko onto it.
