Can crested geckos swim, or move around in deep water?

No, they will drown. You need the water level low, if you put a dish in there, so they can jump out. Don't put anything deep in your tank or they can drown.

You don't want deep water for the gecko. Their water dishes need to be shallow enough that if the gecko stands in it, the water goes up only half way through its legs.

The problem with deeper water is the gecko can mistakenly take in water and have it fill its lungs. You should never fill the dish high enough the the nose/face is under.
