Crew... Explanation please!?

What is exactly crew? I know it is rowing, but can someone explain it in detail? Please? Is it fun?

well it depends who you ask if its fun or not

it involves erging (indoor rowing machine) if the weather doesn't let you go on the water... its a lot of work and isn't easy but don't let that scare you away, its a lot of work in the beginning but once you learn the techniques and ways its pretty easy and you continue to improve every day

I've been around the sport my whole life and its really really fun, you meet a lot of people, its a great workout, its a great team sport because you have to work together to make the boat more, and its a life time sport... my dad started his freshman year of high school (1976) and still rows!

I think its really fun and i love it and i think that if you're interested you should definitely try it

Crew really rocks.  Easily one of the most rigorous sports, crew athletes probably work harder than most other athletes, (swimming and wrestling are probably equally hard core).  It is both an explosive sport and an endurance sport - throughout a race one must consistently apply high amounts of power to the oar and retain this for the length of the race.  Many consider it not a sport as it really requires no coordination/ minimal strategy/ and you don't play against your opponent you just race fastest time wins.  I guess I would have to agree with them, except in longer races where there are no lanes there is a lot of racing strategy that comes into play.  But if you define a team sport as an athletic competition of two groups of people that requires teamwork, it is the purest of sports.  In a boat you can have up to 8 people and being in time with your team mates is of the up-most importance.  So yeah, it is true training is rigorous, but if you're gonna do something, might as well go all out.
