Crf 80 oil....10w-30? 10w 40? help

I have a bottle of 10w-30.

but im not sure what i can put in it. the bike is not supposed to be riden so i cant ask my dad for the manual. I think the stock oil is 10w-40. im not sure..is there a big difference in the 30 and 40?

  1. there is hardly any difference...they both act like 10 weight oil when they are cold, and they both act like either 30 or 40 weight oil when they are hot...and hot oil flows the same as 10 weight oil!

    so, Use it.

The last number is how thick it is when it gets hot, since bikes run hotter than cars they need a higher number on the end to keep the engine lubed when it gets hot so, no it probably won't hurt it if you use 10 lower but since your not supposed to be riding it you better wait in case it does so you don't get into trouble if something goes wrong (knock on wood). Last time i tried doing something extravagant my parents didn't know about i put rc car nitro fuel in a lawnmower and got carbon monoxide poisoning, didn't feel good for like a month. So just wait until it can be ridden. I'm guessing it needs an oil change before it can be ridden?

    I did a search and found out that the reccamende oil is 10w-30, so you should be fine.
