Cricket 2011 - Afghanistan not to extend http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Rashid-Latif-c84084 Coaching Contract
After a day of rumours regarding the fragile relationship between Rashid Latif, the head coach of the Afghan cricket team, and Afghan Cricket Board (ACB), sources in the board have revealed that a decision on not to extend Latif’s contract has finally been
taken.
Speaking to journalists on the matter, the Chief Executive of the ACB, Naseemullah Danish revealed, “We’re not going to renew Latif’s contract. We are not satisfied with his performance as coach. We hired him with great expectations but he failed to meet
them after which we have decided to hire someone more competent”.
According to sources, Latif, whose contract with http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Afghanistan-c745 ends on 31st July, this year was said to be unhappy with the performance of certain players during Afghanistan’s tour of Pakistan where the visitors were defeated by the “A” side in
all three one-day games.
After this disastrous result, Latif suspected some players of underperforming to get him removed from the post.
However, Danish insisted that the Afghan board was least impressed by the efforts of the former Pakistan wicketkeeper/batsman, who according to the officials, had failed to raise the standard of the national team.
“We are very disappointed with the team’s performance under Latif. After the loss against Pakistan ‘A’, we realised that the team was going down instead of up under Latif. The team, under former coach http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Mohammad-Kabir-Khan-c77039, had started showing improvement from day
one but Latif, after spending months with them, has brought no improvement at all”, Danish reiterated.
After the appointment of Latif, the Afghan team shocked the cricket world by defeating http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Pakistan-c755 in the semi-final of the Asian games last year.
However, the side lost to Bangladesh in the final, nonetheless, a defeat to Pakistan was testament to the fact that Afghan cricket had the talent to cause http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Adam-Richard-Griffith-c41953 upsets on a given day.
On the other hand, the ACB chief executive insisted that his side should have won a gold medal by defeating http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Bangladesh-c747, as according to him the Afghanistan side was better than Bangladesh. He blamed Latif for not doing enough with the team, which resulted
in their demise in the final of the Asian Games.
Danish clarified that Latif will continue his http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Services-c840 till the expiration of his contract.
According to insiders, Latif has also decided not to seek a renewal of his contract as he is not http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Arthur-Percival-Day-c45927 with the officials of the ACB and also has lost faith in his players.
