Cricket Association of Bengal grateful to BCCI for allotting 3 matches to the Eden Gardens Cricket Stadium – Cricket News Update
The Eden Gardens Cricket Stadium has finally bagged the right to host three matches from India's two upcoming home series, against England and http://www.senore.com/Cricket/West-Indies-c760, which are due later this summer.
The Cricket Association of http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Gordon-James-Muchall-c60376 happy to have this honour.
Before the start of http://www.senore.com/Cricket/England-c56013 was due to be held at Eden Gardens, but the International Cricket Council’s inspection team rejected the venue due to its poor preparation.
This move irked the CAB and the Bengalis who went on rampage later, however, the venue of that game was moved to Bangalore.
The Bengalis considered it a great loss for them despite the fact that some other World Cup matches were played at Eden.
Now, the BCCI has decided to hold three matches out of the two series in Kolkata in order to pacify the natives.
The Bengalis are keen to watch the mega showdown between the former colonial masters and their slaves at home.
Talking to the media today, the CAB president, http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Jagmohan-Dalmiya-c65287, said, “Of course this is a good move (by BCCI). Last time we were deprived of our due match against England. It was an injustice done to the CAB.”
He further elaborated, “At the time of the World Cup itself they (BCCI) wanted some solution to be found and decided to give us two matches as compensation, a T20 and an ODI. Now, we have got the Test match too. We are http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Arthur-Percival-Day-c45927 that the Board has given us three
matches.”
As per the allotted quota, Eden Gardens will now host the only T20 between India and England along with an ODI and a Test.
Built in 1864, the Eden Gardens stadium has a capacity of almost 90, 000 spectators. The first ever Test on the ground was played between http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Pakistan-c755.
The venue still has to make its T20I debut.
