Cricket Australia 2011 - Ricky Ponting keen to carry on with cricket for next two years
Former Australian skipper, http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Ricky-Thomas-Ponting-c85411, wants to keep his heels hot for the next couple of years, saying that he still has enough energy to play competitive cricket.
Ponting stepped down from captaincy following Australia’s terrible performance in the recent ICC World Cup 2011. While the cricket pundits were expecting the 36-year-old cricketer to say goodbye to cricket, Ponting took a bold step and announced to continue
his international career as a batsman under the leadership of http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Michael-Ian-Coleridge-Clarke-c75959.
Ponting’s remarks came after Shane Warne’s recent comments in which he claimed that the former skipper has reached the culmination of his career and the selectors can sack him any time.
Cricket Australia (CA)’s selectors recently evoked controversy by excluding the in-form http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Simon-Mathew-Katich-c90404 from the list of 25 contracted players. The legendary Aussie leg-spinner described that Ponting’s recent lacklustre batting performance might become a reason
of his elimination from the national side.
The 41-year old spinner insisted that if the selectors can hurl Katich out of the side despite his superb performance in every format of the game, Ponting’s presence in the team is at question.
On the other hand, Ponting dismissed the notion that he has been thinking about quitting the international cricket, reiterating his resolution to serve his country for a few more years to come.
"I've been a bit disappointed with the way I've played and disappointed with the performance the team's put up, but in no way have I lost any of my desire or passion for the game”, said Ponting.
Ponting has led the Kangaroos to the two consecutive title-winning triumphs in http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Australia-c746 in 152 Tests and 362 ODIs, further hoped he will be able to secure his place in the side by performing
well in the future series.
"I think some people are probably a bit shocked with the decision I made (to play on), and that Cricket Australia has allowed it to happen. It's happened in every other team around the world, whether it's cricket or other sporting teams”, added the classy
right-handed batsman.
