Shane Warne, the former Australian spinner and vice-captain, has rung alarm bells in the mind of http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Simon-Mathew-Katich-c90404 can be kicked out despite his excellent
averages, why not Ponting?
The selectors of Cricket Australia (CA) have recently stirred up a spat by dropping the in-form Katich from the contract list of 20 players for this season.
Comparing Katich with Ponting, Warne noted that Katich has batting averages of 50 and 45 while Ponting has just 25.
Warne’s comments are a follow-up of Ponting’s recent statement about Katich’s termination. Ponting said, “It was a shock to me. I was surprised that he wasn't named. His performance in the last two or three years has been as good as almost anybody's in the
world.”
Ponting has also confessed that he has been underperforming since last few months.
Warne says, “I think what they are trying to do with Ricky at the moment is say 'well let's take the captaincy off him and see how it goes”.
Warne went on to say, “I think they will give him a bit of a trial but hopefully if he is not performing he will put his hand up and say 'I will retire”.
But Warne opines that it is hard for the Kangaroo selectors to show Ponting the door all of sudden, as he has earned two consecutive http://www.senore.com/Cricket/ICC-World-Cup-2011-c100625 Cricket World Cup titles for his country as a captain.
Ponting led the Aussies to a win in 2003 and 2007 editions of the World Cup in a row. However, the legend stepped down from captaincy after the team’s demise in the 2011 edition.
Ponting is now playing as a No 6 batsman under the leadership of http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Michael-John-Clarke-c76008.
Ponting remained out-of-form throughout the last World Cup tournament. Though he had been a good leader, the Australians expected him to be a consistent performer with the bat.
Warne has also announced his retirement from all forms of  cricket after playing the IPL-4 tournament. He led http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Rajasthan-c837 Royals during the all four seasons of the league.
