Cricket Australia Chairman's XI v Sri Lankans - http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Sri-Lanka-c758 tour of Australia - Tour Match - Day 1 – Recap
CA Chairman 390/4 (90.0 ov) v Sri Lankans - Cricket http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Australia-c746 Chairman's XI won the toss and elected to bat
The Sri Lankans seem unprepared to take on Australia as their bowlers were hammered for a mammoth first innings score of 390 on the first day of the three-day tour match against Cricket Australia Chairman's XI, who chose to bat first and then punished the Sri Lankan bowlers.
The Sri Lankans, are perhaps, the only Asian side which has a decent record in Australia (in recent times) as teams from http://www.senore.com/Cricket/India-c750 have struggled on the bouncy Aussie wickets.
Nonetheless, this time, the Sri Lankan contingent seems weak in their bowling department which could cost them dearly once their three- Test series begins from December 14.
With only this tour match before the real thing, the Sri Lankans need to acclimate as soon as possible or else this might be a long and hard tour for them.
On the other hand, the Aussies will be going into the tournament after suffering a series defeat by the hands of arch nemesis http://www.senore.com/Cricket/South-Africa-c757, and while their moral would be down, they can be expected to take out their anger on the Lankans.
On Thursday, Cricket Australia Chairman's XI chose to bat first after they won the toss at Manuka Oval, Canberra, and got off to a start of 47 runs, with openers SO Henry and MS http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Harris-c61739 exhibiting impressive form.
Eranga was the first from Sri Lanka to strike as he nabbed Harris after he had posted 20 runs off 35 deliveries.
Henry was then joined by UT Khawaja, and the two Aussies batsmen launched another resilient batting onslaught as they led their side to 170 runs before Welegedara trashed the party by dismissing Khawaja, who was caught by the Sri Lankan skipper, http://www.senore.com/Cricket/DPMD-Jayawardene-c1397, after belting a knock of 56 runs.
With Khawaja out of their way, this was the time for Sri Lankan bowlers to make a comeback in order to contain the hosts.
http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Andrew-Charles-Lennox-James-c44309 Doolan was the third-wicket of the day as he was clean-bowled by Randiv, after scoring only six runs.
However, they were left paralyzed on the arrival of GJ Maxwell, as the young batsman forged a remarkable partnership alongside Henry to take the score to 318.
Maxwell was outstanding today, as he crafted his innings to punish the Sri Lankans as much as possible, and batting with Henry was another advantage he had on his side.
Finally he fell after scoring a well tamed 91-run knock, and was then replaced by TM Head, who scored 35, while Henry stood defiant after jabbing 172 runs.
The hosts ended the day with a massive score of 390 runs, and now would be looking to put their opponents into bat tomorrow.
