Cricket Australia Will Decide On Howard Next Week

John Howard’s nomination for the International Cricket Council Vice President was rejected by six countries without a vote, last week in the meeting held in Singapore. The Cricket Australia representatives including Howard remain angry at the decision, but Australia and New Zealand have been given until the 31st of August to find another candidate.

Cricket Australia is faced with two decisions now, to either re-nominate John Howard as the Vice President or decide on another candidate. They are in no hurry, with a meeting scheduled for next week. Australia and New Zealand jointly selected Howard and are reportedly frustrated over the rejection; they will wait for the reports by Cricket Australia chairman, Jack Clarke from Singapore before making their decision.

After his rejection, Howard said in a statement how no 'one' country, should dominate the International Cricket Council and called for greater equality. This statement clearly refers to the Board of Control for Cricket In India, which has a considerable influence over the ICC and is seen as the main culprit in this rejection. "They've got to pay regard to what's happened, given that we had apparently put in place a procedure for choosing by rotation for the president and vice-president of the ICC, and that appears to have been pushed to one side in the last week. But they've got to look at the future of the game with equal importance." Howard told reporters. This has brought attention to the issue and earned http://www.senore.com/Cricket/India-c750 criticism over their possible role in rejecting Howard’s nomination.

Howard stressed on how he was still interested in the job as the Vice President of the ICC but had left the decision to Cricket Australia. “I'd like the job but at this stage its hit a roadblock, and what happens from now on is really CA's call, it's not about me, it's about the future of the game," he said. "I went into this because I love cricket very much and I had the time to devote to it and the energy and the commitment, but what happens from now on CA and New Zealand Cricket Board have been asked to re-nominate and they obviously separately and together will meet and talk about the situation.”

Jack Clarke, who will lead the conference next week, is the most probable Australian candidate for the post. He was “gutted” by the rejection of Howard and stressed how he was still their candidate until another decision was reached by Cricket Australia and New Zealand Cricket. Clarke gave his full backing to Howard, saying how he was still Australia’s candidate but how New Zealand might want to pick another candidate. The New Zealand board will hold a meeting later this month to discuss the issue at hand, and a possible candidate from http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Australia-c746, which could complicate things now.

Other possible Australians candidates include former Australian players, Mark http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Bangladesh-c747 and then not vote.
