Cricket Australia and players' union reach deadlock in pay dispute – Cricket News Update
Cricket Australia (CA) and the Australian Cricketers' Association (ACA) have reached a deadlock in their negotiations for a new 5-year pay agreement, with the cricket board refusing to compromise on their stance, or make any changes to their initial offer.
Clarifying the details of the CA’s offer, chief executive http://www.senore.com/Cricket/James-Alexander-Sutherland-c65430 claimed that the governing body had offered the Australian and state players a pay raise which, as compared to the last five years, involved an $80 million increase over the next five years.
“To us it seems like a very attractive offer, and to the players that we've spoken to and shown the numbers to they appear to think it's a very attractive offer as well. Hopefully the ACA can find themselves in a position to come to terms with us,” he said, adding that the CA was confident in their decision.
ACA chief http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Paul-Marsh-c81144 had announced earlier that while his organisation was looking to effectively resolve the dispute, the players had not ruled out the possibility of growing on strike if their demands were not met by the June 30th deadline. Both parties are due to start another round of negotiations next week.
Meanwhile, Marsh reiterated that the ACA were also unwilling to back down from their stance.
“Cricket Australia is very aware of the players' position. We're not prepared to go backwards,” http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Australia-c746 to treat its No.1 asset, the players.”
A failure to negotiate could seriously affect the team’s chances as they are due to play a One-Day International series against http://www.senore.com/Cricket/ICC-World-Cup-2011-c100625 World Cup T20 is yet another crucial tournament which could be marred for the national team should the players go on strike.
Sutherland has admitted that these sort of difficulties in negotiations are generally resolved at the last minute. Should the situation culminate in a players’ strike, however, the Aussies, currently at the top of the ODI rankings, may find themselves slipping down the table as the last three matches of their upcoming ODI tour, are scheduled to take place after June 30.
