Cricket Australia back UDRS, opposing the BCCI
Cricket http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Australia-c746 (CA) has strongly backed the decision to use the Umpire Decision Review System (UDRS) in all International matches.
At the moment, the system can only be used if both playing teams are in favour of it. However, the International Cricket Council (ICC) was looking forward to make the use of the system in Twenty20, One Day Internationals (ODIs), as compulsory.
According to the CA chief, James Sutherland, “My personal view is strongly in support of DRS. At this stage, in spite of the recommendation of the cricket committee; it does need to go through other bodies within the ICC in order for that to become an absolute
requirement.”
The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) didn’t agree with the Australian authorities and openly opposed the use of DRS in International cricket.
On the reaction of the cricket officials in http://www.senore.com/Cricket/India-c750, Sutherland said, “I'm conscious of that, but certainly from a CA perspective, we would be very keen for DRS to be in place for all international cricket.”
India have opposed the use of the DRS on numerous occasions and claimed to trust the on-field umpires rather than the technology. However, the system was successful in the ICC World Cup 2011, which was hosted by India.
The Men in Blue were lucky to have the system in the Mega Event, as they might have been knocked out of the semi-final game against arch rivals http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Pakistan-c755 due to a wrong decision.
Star batsman, Sachin Tendulkar, was judged leg-before-wicket (LBW) when he was batting on 23. He missed an off-spinning delivery from http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Saeed-Ajmal-c87859, which struck on the pads of the Master Blaster. The decision seemed to be a straight forward one from naked
eye and the umpire, Ian http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Captain-Gould-c41006, raised his finger.
However, Tendulkar used his review and the decision was over turned. The replays suggested that the ball would have gone onto miss the leg-stump and the veteran batsmen got a lucky escape.
He went onto score 85 in the match, which proved to be decisive in the game, which was won by the home team comfortably in the end.
