Cricket http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Australia-c746 launches Ashes review
Cricket Australia (CA) has launched a review into the country's dismal performance in the 2010-11 Ashes series. All on-field and off-field operations of the players and officials will be put under the scanner in order to determine the reason behind the team's
humiliating 3-1 defeat against England.
Not only will the players and officials be scrutinised, but the entire cricket structure in Australia will be analysed and there may be several changes made after the review.
Australian coach Tim Nielson and chairman of selectors Andrew Hilditch could come under fire after the review is complete, as they have come under a lot of criticism.
CA Chief James Sutherland said, “It's a great opportunity. Out of what happened in the Ashes if we can closely examine some of the faults that the experts may deem to have caused this, then it won't occur again.”
He further stated that all the members of CA were disappointed over the outcome of the Ashes series but it was time to move on. He said that the outcome of the review would definitely help Australian cricket to move ahead in a positive direction.
Although CA has decided to launch a review, there is still some uncertainty over the names of the experts who will be a part of the process.
There was a serious dip in form witnessed in Australia’s cricket during the Ashes series in 2010-11. As a result, the team lost the Ashes at home for the first time in 24 years.
Apart from that, the team also lost their top position in Test cricket and are currently ranked at number five; just one spot above http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Pakistan-c755.
There were also question marks over the Kangaroos performances in limited-over cricket, but the team proved that they were number one in One Day Internationals (ODIs) after they overcame England by a 6-1 margin.
The main concern for the board is the team’s performance in the longest version of the game, which has been below par in the recent past.
Former Pakistan great http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Javed-Miandad-c66580 blamed the cash rich Indian Premier League (IPL) to be the reason behind Australia’s poor form in Test cricket. That could be a valid point considering that some of the key Australian players opted to stay out of the lucrative
league this year.
