Cricket Australia mulling over longer T20 series in future - Cricket News Update
The Chief Executive of Cricket Australia, http://www.senore.com/Cricket/James-Alexander-Sutherland-c65430, said on Wednesday that they are mulling over hosting more Twenty20 games in the future at the expense of hosting One Day International matches.
Sutherland’s statement has come after Sydney witnessed a record breaking turnout during the first T20 match of the two-match series against India on Wednesday night. A record 59,659 fans came out to cheer their players in the series opener at Stadium Australia,
also known as the ANZ Stadium.
The recently concluded eight-team Big Bash League had also attracted a handsome crowd to the stadiums (more than fifty-five thousand fans), besides doubling the pay-TV ratings. The Cricket Australia Chief Executive said that the demand for T20 cricket by
the Australian fans prompted the board to review its international calendar.
"Twenty20 cricket has never been more popular in Australia. I'm a little bit troubled by the fact we play a two-match Twenty 20 series. It doesn't quite make sense," said the CA chief executive.
"I'd like to think that down the track we could change that. It's something that we'll certainly look at. We're not looking to play more international cricket so there will be a reduction in other forms and that won't be Tests," he added further.
Last night’s T20 match between http://www.senore.com/Cricket/India-c750 and Australia was the first ever international match hosted at the ANZ Stadium and Sutherland was excited to see a record breaking turnout.
"It beat the 58,446 SCG crowd that watched http://www.senore.com/Cricket/England-c56013 in 1928," said Sutherland who was quoted by a leading Australian daily.
"It's a good sign. The opportunity is there for 2015 where we're going to have a lot of cricket matches here in Australia and we want the biggest and the best venues," he added further.

The prolific Australia all-rounder http://www.senore.com/Cricket/DJ-Hussey-c1380 has endorsed Sutherland’s idea by saying, “Twenty20 cricket is one of the Twenty20 is one of the future formats of the game that can go a long way," and suggested that the board should organize a triangular
T20 series in the future.
