Cricket Australia planning a review of team after a humiliating 3-1 Ashes drubbing
Cricket Australia chief executive James Sutherland said on Friday that the board will review all facets of the Aussies' game in the recently concluded Ashes series, in which the hosts faced a humiliating 3-1 drubbing at the hands of England.
"We do a review every year irrespective of whether we have a good year or a bad year,” said Sutherland. "This has been a bad series and it's a reason for us to have a very good look at where we're up to, what we do, how we can get better,
how we can get back on top,” the cricket Australia chief executive conceded.
Australia after going one game down in the series, struck back in Perth to level the series 1-1. But the mighty Aussies failed to capitalize on their 267-run win in the third Ashes Test as they lost the last two Ashes games again by an
innings margin, hence losing the Ashes series as well as the urn down under for the first time in last 24 years.
Sutherland admitted that the side are no more on the top adding that the Aussies need a thorough review to find a way to get back their world’s No. 1 status as quickly as they can.
"I'm firmly of the view that you can't expect to get back on top by doing the same things and just simply plugging away,” he said. "You have to look at where you're up to, how things are delivered and your approach and that will certainly
be part of a review that will happen in the coming weeks,” he added further.
Sutherland, however did opine that the change cannot come overnight and needs to be fully endorsed by Cricket http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Australia-c746.
After the inept performance of the Aussies in the recently concluded Ashes series, the Australian media as well as the former Australia players have called for heads to roll from. Sutherland assured the fans that his organization would
not keep doing the same things and was hopeful that his side will come up with some better results in the next Ashes in 2013 which will be hosted by England.
Some changes in the top management of Cricket Australia are already being planned. The chairman of selectors Andrew Hilditch has reached near the conclusion of his stint as he will be leaving the selection panel after the ICC World Cup
2011. Australia team’s head coach, Tim Nielsen is all set to take over the role from Hilditch for the next three years. The incumbent chairman, however, has expressed his wish play a role in selecting teams after the termination of his tenure.
The fast bowling coach of Australia cricket team, Troy Cooley, will be leaving his job in April to take his new role as head of Cricket Australia's centre of excellence in Brisbane.
