Cricket http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Australia-c746 releases list of contracted players for 2012-13 – Cricket News Update
With the deadlock regarding the terms of a new pay deal for players having been resolved between Cricket Australia and the Australian Cricketers’ Association, and a new Memorandum of Understating having been signed, the new contract list for 2012-13 has
been released.
In accordance with last year’s Argus review, the governinhttp://www.senore.com/Cricket/David-John-Goodchild-c52940 body has cut the list of contracted players down from 25 to 17-20, with the option to upgrade players based on their performance. The minimum retainer contract with the CA is worth $230,000, with
a variety of performance bonuses available (e.g. for match and series wins, or for securing the first or second place in the ICC’s annual rankings).
Cricket Australia explained that the contracted players had been selected on the basis of their form over the past 12 months, and the chances of their being chosen to play for Australia in the coming 12 months.
Skipper Michael Clarke tops the new contract list, with a base salary of roughly $2 million, which is likely to increase if match fees and the captain’s allowance are included in the figure. http://www.senore.com/Cricket/RT-Ponting-c2377, despite having been axed from the ODI squad, has
still retained his central contract, and batsman David Warner is among the new inductees in the list, after a series of consistent performances.
Pacer Mitchell Johnson, who was expected to be sidelined owing to poor form (in comparison to youngsters such as James Pattinson, http://www.senore.com/Cricket/RJ-Harris-c2330 and Ben Hilfenhaus) is also on the list, and has been included
in the squad for Australia’s upcoming tour of http://www.senore.com/Cricket/BJ-Haddin-c1170 and Matthew Wade.
Absent from the list are http://www.senore.com/Cricket/NM-Hauritz-c2122. However, Cowan, Australia’s current Test opener of choice, is likely to be upgraded
on the basis of his performance in upcoming fixtures.
http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Robert-John-Inverarity-c85980, chairman of the CA selection panel, claimed that the board’s decision to name just 17 players was merely meant to ensure that the deserving players were duly rewarded. He went on to add that the National Selection Panel still had faith in
a number of players who had not managed to secure a contract.
“Naming just 17 players initially, with the ability to upgrade others as and when performance warrants, ensures a tighter alignment between current performance, recognition and reward,” Inverarity said. “There are a number of very good and highly regarded
players who the NSP have considerable faith in — and hopes for — who didn't on this occasion make the cut for the contract list of 17.”
