Cricket http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Australia-c746 sack Mike Young as fielding coach: Reports
Australia cricket team’s fielding coach, Mike Young has reportedly been sacked from his role with the Kangaroos. The decision is supposed to have been made before the execution of the review into Australia’s performance. The review
was led by Don Argus.
Cricket Australia, however, has not yet confirmed the removal of Young from his role with the Aussies.
Young, whose expertise is baseball, travelled to Subcontinent with Team Australia during the recently concluded ICC World Cup 2011. He, however, was not part of the coaching staff that toured http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Bangladesh-c747 in April for a three-match
One Day International (ODI) series.
Young was replaced with the former http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Queensland-c834 wicketkeeper, Wade Seccombe – who was coach at the Centre of Excellence last year - during the Bangladesh trip.
The 55-year-old American born, who is primarily a baseball coach, was made fielding coach of Australia cricket team way back in 2000, during the term of John http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Buchanan-c48808. He worked as Buchanan’s assistant until 2005. But in 2005, Cricket
Australia did not renew his contract and the former minor-league baseball manager in the United States moved back to his native state of Chicago to manage Illinois based Rockford Riverhawks.
After Young’s departure, the fielding of the mighty Aussies had once again slipped as they lost the Ashes series to England for the first time since 1987. Buchanan, who was still Australia’s head coach, then decided to hire a full
time fielding coach for the Aussies. Young, who had got addicted to cricket by then, announced he would like to end his managerial career if offered the fielding coach role.
Young , who was often observed walking beside the boundary rope when the Aussies were in the field, is sought after for his radical thoughts on fielding methods and is the reason behind the quicksilver fielding of Australia.
Young has also consulted for http://www.senore.com/Cricket/India-c750 in 2009. He was signed by the Board of Control for cricket in India (BCCI) in December 2009 and worked as the fielding consultant with the Men in Blue for three weeks. Before joining team India on
6 December 2009, he also had a brief stint with http://www.senore.com/Cricket/New-Zealand-c754 cricket.
