Cricket Australia seek update on Bangalore security
The Cricket Australia is worried about the fact that they have yet to receive the precise security arrangements for the Australian side for the second Test match to be played against India. The second
game will be played at the M Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bangalore and will begin from 9 October.
CA chief executive James Sutherland wrote to the Board of Control for Cricket in http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Australia-c746 contingent were yet to be made aware of the security arrangements for the game.
Bangalore had seen two low-intensity bomb blasts during the third edition of the Indian Premier League just before the start of a game between Bangalore and http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Mumbai-c820 on 17 April. There had not been any casualties
but eight people had been injured. It had been enough to change the venue of the two semi-finals from Bangalore to Mumbai.
In his e-mail, Sutherland has written that the blasts outside the M Chinnaswamy had meant that there was a greater demand for security for the game.
The usual practice that is followed is that CA sends a team of personnel to inspect all the security measures set up at the venues. This time around, the personnel had visited all the five venues – for the
two Tests and three ODIs – and while they were happy with the measures in place for the remaining venues, Bangalore had not been able to provide them with conclusive answers.
The deputy commissioner of police in Bangalore, G Ramesh, said that while the measures had not been in place when the Australian contingent had visited them, the police had enough time before the start of
the game to do their job.
Sutherland has also suggested in his e-mail for the BCCI to get more details on the security issues. The BCCI has yet to get back to the Australian cricket board with regards to this issue but will want to
address it ad avoid any kind of problem that may jeopardise future tours.
