Cricket Australia shows concern for its players’ safety in Bangalore
Cricket http://www.senore.com/Cricket/India-c750 and Australia would be played.
Cricket Australia’s Chief Executive, James Sutherland in an email to the secretary of Board of Control for Cricket in India, N Srinivasan, said that the Australian board wasn’t informed in detail about the security measures at Chinnaswamy Stadium. He asked
the Indian board to follow up the issue with the relevant state government.
Earlier, CA had sent a pre-tour group consisting of its cricket operations manager, Geoff Allardice, team manager, Steve Bernard and security manager, Frank Dimasi to inspect all the five venues for the Test and ODI series. A representative of the Australian
players' association was also in the group.
In the email, Sutherland maintained that although, the pre-tour group has expressed overall satisfaction on the security arrangements but still it wasn’t given the detailed security plan by Bangalore police. He added that Bangalore police also failed to
provide convincing answers to some of the group’s queries, though it was assured by the security in-charge, G. Ramesh that all things would ultimately fall in place by the time the series starts.
On the other hand, G. Ramesh revealed that Bangalore Police had not yet formulated any detailed security plan arguing that there was ample time to deal with the security issues. The India versus Australia Test match at the Chinnaswamy Stadium is scheduled
to be played from 9 to 13 October 2010. Ramesh added that he was visited by the Australian pre-tour group almost a month ago but it had not contacted him since then.
CA’s security concerns stem from professed perils in the wake of two low-intensity bomb blasts outside the venue earlier this year, where eight people were injured. These blasts had occurred on 17th April 2010, moments before an IPL clash at the
same venue between http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Mumbai-c820 Indians and Royal Challengers Bangalore.
Later, two unexploded bombs were also discovered there. Due to the blasts, IPL semi-final games had to be moved to Mumbai. "With the small explosions outside the Chinnaswamy Stadium during IPL III, there is obviously some greater sensitivity and awareness
about security risks in Bangalore," read Sutherland’s email that was sent to Srinivasan.
With less than ten days remaining in the match, Cricket Australia is bound to show its concerns on the security of its players at the venue. CA’s security manager recommended that the security officers at the venue remain more vigilant before letting in
the crowd on the match days.
