Cricket Australia turn down reports Ricky Ponting smashed LCD TV in dressing room
Cricket Australia on Tuesday denied reports that captain Ricky Ponting had smashed an LCD Television inside the Australian dressing room after he got run out in the side’s opening ICC World Cup 2011 match against http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Zimbabwe-c3045 at the Sardar Patel Stadium in Ahmedabad on Monday.
“This is severely exaggerated reporting and very unfortunate,” said Cricket Australia in a statement. “Ricky Ponting did not break the tv set in the dressing room in Ahmedabad, rather his protectors bounced off his bag and struck the TV, but no damage was caused.”
Earlier the Gujarat Cricket Association had claimed that the 36-year-old http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Tasmania-c854 batsman, furious over his run out, had hit the television set inside the team dressing room which was showing replays of his dismissal.
The statement from the GCA Secretary Rajesh Patel said that the Australian captain smashed an LCD TV in the Australian dressing room which might have been provoked by his early dismissal.
The Australian captain was disappointed with himself after he was run out for 28 off a direct hit from Chris Mpofu.
But Cricket http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Australia-c746 said the incident was not like that and the report was exaggerated. It said that the team management was aware of the exact nature of the incident and believed it was blown up.
The GCA had reportedly brought the issue to the notice of International Cricket Council as well as Australian cricket authorities.
“We informed the Australian cricket officials and the International Cricket Council immediately,” said the GCA secretary. “But there has been no apology to us from either the Australian captain or the team management so far.”
Giving the details of damage caused to the television set, Patel said that the screen of the set was not broken but it stopped working after the incident.
The official also told the media reporters that the Association was scheduled to hold a meeting on Tuesday to decide about taking any further action.
