Cricket Kenya chairman Samir Inamdar hits back at Paul Otuoma for his criticism – Cricket news
Chairman of Cricket Kenya, http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Samir-Inamdar-c88293 has hit back at the country’s sports minister Paul Otuoma for the criticism he had levelled against the Board for national team’s dismal performance in the recently concluded ICC World Cup 2011.
“It's unfortunate that, in these circumstances, [Otuoma] has chosen to air his ill-advised views publicly and to condemn the Cricket Kenya board without any proper consultation or discussion,” said Inamdar while talking to the media
on Wednesday.
“He appears to be clearly unaware of the history of the sport in Kenya, its challenges or the work carried out by the current administration since the inception of Cricket Kenya five years ago,” he added further.
The Kenya sports minister had earlier held the Cricket Kenya officials responsible for the current plunge in the Kenya cricket including their devastating World Cup campaign where the side finished the Group stage at the bottom of
the table with six losses in six games.
“The officials are responsible for the current rot in the game,” Otuoma had said when asked to comment upon Kenya’s performance in the mega cricketing event.
However, the Cricket Kenya chief countered that they have made several requests to Otuoma to arrange a meeting with the Board officials but no positive response has yet come from the sports minister.
The Kenyan sports minister had also suggested that the Board should either resign en masse or they should be replaced. However, Inamdar dismissed Otuoma’s proposal and said that the constitutionally elected officials of a national
sports association will continue to perform their duties.
“The board is mandated by its constituent member clubs and by the ICC to govern the sport in http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Kenya-c752 and it fully intends to carry out its obligations in doing so,” he said.
The Cricket Kenta initiated a top-to-bottom review of the game’s composition following the ICC World Cup 2011 debacle. The review saw both coach and the captain losing their roles with the national side and now the Kenya sports minister
wants to replace the board officials as well.
