Cricket News:
Namibia seal 44-run win over
Uganda in a solitary T20
A brilliant all-round performance from Louis Klazinga helped
Namibia conclude its clean-sweep over Uganda with a 44-run victory in the only T20 at the Wanderers Cricket Ground,
Windhoek on Sunday 26th September.
After Craig Williams, the Namibian skipper, won the toss and elected to set a total, the Ugandan bowlers did decently, restricting the top order of
http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Namibia-c2964 as the home side was reeling at 58 for 4 in nine overs. An unbroken seventh-wicket partnership of 42 runs from less than three overs shared between Louis Klazinga and Tobias Verwey averted the disaster, boosting the total to
a competitive 159 for 6. Klazinga blazed away with the bat scoring a whirlwind 25 off just 8 deliveries, plundering two fours and two sixes.
Klazinga then came to the fore with his medium fast seam attack, nipping out four quick top-order wickets of
Uganda - a loss that Uganda never recovered from.
The bowling attack of
Uganda has been competitive throughout their tour of Namibia. The visiting bowlers managed to keep the top order of
Namibia in check all through the tour and particularly in yesterday’s game. At the Wanderers Cricket Ground, five of
Namibia’s top order batsmen managed to get starts but all of them succumbed to scores below 20 after
Namibia’s captain http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Craig-Williams-c51765 opted to bat first.
Left-arm seamer http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Ewaid-Steenkamp-c56545 back after having caught behind by wicket keeper Lawrence Sematimba. Waiswa’s incision
was then continued by the medium pacer Deusdedit Muhumuza, who picked up three wickets in four overs with his remarkable line and length as the home side slipped to 58 for 4 within ten overs.
Off-spinner Frank Nsubuga then kept a lid on the run rate of
Namibia, conceding only 13 runs in four overs. That became 83 for five when Gert Lotter was caught by the glove-man http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Lawrence-Sematimba-c72331 behind the stumps off Davis Arinaitwe. The hosts were now in danger of setting a below par total.
Namibia then found its saviours in the form of Raymond van Schoor and Tobias Verwey. Both the partners built some momentum with a flurry of sweet boundaries coming from Verwey. Both the
partners shared a 34-run stand for the sixth wicket partnership from almost four overs as the side was able to get past three digit figures. http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Raymond-van-Schoor-c84385 departed on the first ball of the 18th over 23 slashing Ronald Ssemanda
to Roger Mukasa.
After Van Schoor’s dismissal Louis Klazinga joined http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Tobias-Verwey-c94153 and a brutal assault from the former at the death took the side to a competitive 159. Klazinga played a pugnacious innings of 25 runs
from just 8 balls, with two boundaries and two sixes while Verwey scored unbeaten 33 runs from 21 balls plundering five muscular fours.
http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Louis-Klazinga-c73186. Klazinga’s
next over earned him three more wickets on alternate deliveries - first, third and fifth – as the visitors were reduced to 11 for 4. Not even the 52-run stand between former skipper Akbar Baig and http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Arthur-Ziraba-c46087 could brush off the loss of four quick wickets.
The required run rate for Uganda continued going up and the dismissal of Ziraba in the 11th over off left-arm spinner Louis van der Westhuizen effectively ended
Uganda’s chase.
The spin attack of Namibia kept nipping out the lower order, and despite a defiant resistance from http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Ronald-Ssemanda-c86788 - who scored 23 off 16 - Uganda were rolled over for 115 on the third ball of penultimate
over.
