Former Australian opener Mathew Hayden has announced that he would retire from all forms of cricket after the ongoing Big Bash Twenty20 tournament.
Hayden, who has had a career of almost 20 years, will lead Brisbane Heat against Melbourne Stars at the Gabba, where the flamboyant batsman will face his former comrade Shane Warne, who has come out of retirement to play for the Stars.
“I don't think I'll play again next year...this will be it for me. There's just so much happening in my life, you can never wind back the clock...I'm a father of three firstly and I have a lot of work to do off the field,” said Hayden.
The 40-year-old batsman wants an administrative role for himeself to be associated with the game in future as he wants to help in bringing improvements in the game.
On the game against Melbourne Stars, he hoped to subdue Warne as this would be his last time facing the ace spinner.
