Cricket News-in-Brief - October 19, 2011 – Part 3

Australia will target Hashim Amla, the South Africa skipper, during the three-match One Day International (ODI) series
starting from Wednesday, October 19, 2011. Earlier, the two match Twenty20 series between both sides was levelled at 1-1.

South Africa will be without their regular ODI and Twenty20 skipper AB de Villiers, who fractured his finger during the Champions League Twenty20 tournament, played in India recently.

Due to this, Amla was named as stand in captain for the series. However, the Aussie skipper Michael Clarke sees this as an opportunity to pressurise his counterpart and get him out cheaply in the upcoming ODIs.

According to Clarke, de Villiers’ absence will be a huge blow for the hosts and it will bring added pressure on Amla to lead his side and also score runs at the top of the order.

Durham’s seamer Graham Onions has been included in England’s ODI squad as a replacement for injured Chris Woakes.
The latter was ruled out of the series following a thigh strain.

Woakes did not take part in any of the games played on the Indian tour until now. His side suffered heavy defeats in both matches and will be eying to make some changes to the playing 11 for the third ODI, which will be played on Thursday, October 20, 2011
in Mohali.

Onions last played an international game in 2010 and failed to retain his spot in the team following a serious back injury. However, he will be looking forward to making most of this opportunity and guide his side out of trouble.

A defeat in tomorrow’s game will mean that the Poms will lose the series to the Men in Blue.

Former English skipper Michael Vaughan has asked star middle-order batsman Kevin Pietersen to start thinking positively about his game.

Pietersen has been unable to score a ton in ODI cricket for almost three years and Vaughan believes he was not the same positive cricketer now as in his early days.

Vaughan also backed the English coach Andy Flower and said that he has been doing a terrific job for the team, but India are tough to beat at home soil for any side.
