Angus Fraser feels that Steven Finn’s impressive performance in India will earn him a spot on the English Test squad when the side will face Pakistan in their next year’s assignment, scheduled to kick off in January, in UAE.
During the England’s just concluded routed 5-0 One Day International (ODI) outing against the Indian hosts, Finn managed to stand out as the side’s highest wicket taker, bagging 8 in 5 matches, averaging at 31.62.
“He probably bowled better than his figures suggested and they were pretty decent as it was. He looked good technically, and crucially he was hitting a good line and length and seemed in total control of what he was doing. Steven will be pushing hard for a Test place against Pakistan,” said Fraser.
South Africa’s stand-in Captain, Hashim Amla, has said that he does not regret taking over the Proteas but still has much ground to cover in his newly-found role.
Amla took over the side after the team’s former Captain, AB de Villiers, was omitted from the role after suffering a broken finger injury.
The top order batsman is currently engaged with the team in the proceeding series finale ODI match against the Australian tourists, having already earned a stalemate at the home-competition, Twenty20 (T20) leg.
England’s spinner, Graeme Swann, has renounced all claims for sledging Indian players during the two teams’ recent 5-match ODI series, where the Poms were handed over a clean sweep by the Men in Blue.
“There has been a lot of talk about England's on-field behaviour in the five-match series, especially after MS Dhoni claimed some of our sledging was over the top and we were arguing among ourselves. As for sledging the opposition, I don't think any of our chat has been over the top or personal," admitted Swann.
However, the spinner also revealed that the comments and personal abuse his team-mate Sumit Patel recives from the Indian players is far worse then what they have claimed against the Poms.
Swann comprehended that his team, which is still to face India in their tour’s one-off T20 game, will have to revamp their overseas performance, where they have not been so effective lately.
