Cricket South Africa apologises to Herschelle Gibbs for statement
Cricket South Africa has tendered an apology to the veteran batsman Herschelle Gibbs after they prematurely announced the termination of his contract. Cricket South Africa issued a press release which said that after consultation with the lawyer of Herschelle
Gibbs they have decided by “mutual agreement” to terminate his contract. However at the time the statement was released, Gibbs lawyer Peter Whelan was still waiting for the legal representative of cricket http://www.senore.com/Cricket/South-Africa-c757 to get in touch with him, in order to
discuss the matter.
Since the statement was issued, Whelan has now met with the lawyer of CSA and revealed to sources that the contract of the former player has now indeed been terminated. "Herschelle did a settlement with CSA, the terms of which are confidential. We can say
that there was no bad faith from CSA. It was in everybody's interests," Whelan stated.
His lawyer also went on to rubbish any claims that Gibbs had breached his contract which is why it was being terminated. Earlier a source had mentioned that http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Gibbs-c60021 was being reproached by the CSA after he violated the terms of his contract on “various grounds”
in his autobiography where he has made some rather explicit confessions about the experiences of him and his teammates.
The Autobiography which is called, “To the Point” managed to sell 15000 copies on the first day of its release after he made some revealing confessions about certain clique present in the South African side which comprised of players like Smith, de Villiers,
Boucher and Kallis. He also provided livid details of sexual debauchery during the South African tour of http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Australia-c746 in 97/98.
After the initial disclosures, CSA decided to look into allegations made by Gibbs and many players along with the coach expressed disappointment in the accusations that the former player had made in his autobiography. However, they have now clearly stated,
that “Because of the sensitivity of the matter as well as the confidentiality agreements signed between the parties, the matter is now closed and there will be no further comments from the parties concerned.” This was said by the chief executive of CSA Gerald
Majola.
The former player was one of those 23 players who had been contracted by the CSA until the end of April 2011, however, it was speculated that due to the enormity of the allegations levelled by him in his book, his international career would come to a premature
end. However, he has now managed to obtain a no objection certificate from Cricket South Africa that makes him eligible to play in a T20 tournament to be held in http://www.senore.com/Cricket/New-Zealand-c754 sometime this month. He has also stated that he was looking forward to being part
of the Australian Big Bash which would be the Australian version of the IPL.
It has also been learnt that Gibbs is in contact with the franchise, Cobra’s and it is expected that the former Proteas batsman will sign a contract with the Cobra’s in the near future.
