Cricket South Africa applaud Cricketers of the Year – Cricket News Update

Cricket South Africa CEO, Gerald Majola, has congratulated the five cricketers of the year for their services rendered to the Proteas over the past 12 months.

The lists include batsman like Faf du Plessis and Colin Ingram, along with veteran all-rounder, Zander de Bruyn. The other two spots went to the spin duo of Robin Peterson and Pakistani born, Imran Tahir.

The five have been rewarded for an outstanding year, as all have performed well for their country and respective clubs.

The rise of Du Plessis and Imran Tahir has come after a commendable World Cup 2011, while Ingram rose to fame after scoring a century on debut, followed by another, three innings later.

Peterson has given his best year so far for the Proteas, while the surprise came in shape of the 36-year-old De Bruyn, who has been the standout player for Highveld Lions for the past two to three seasons. He is currently playing for English County, Surrey,
and recently scored an unbeaten century in a First-class game.

The five have been honored in the South African Cricket Annual, which was released on the 6th of September, 2011.

“The five players are extremely well deserving of this recognition,” commented CSA CEO Gerald Majola.

“And, without going into all their individual achievements, I believe the entire nation was thrilled by the manner in which Robin and Imran brought spin bowling to the forefront of our game. Both Faf and Colin are just starting out on their international
careers and have shown outstanding promise so far,” he added.

Majola also praised the SA Cricket Annual, which he believes is the premiere publication which has kept all the South African cricketing records intact.

The team is currently on a six-month layoff after a disappointing World Cup campaign, which saw them on their way out, at the hands of New Zealand.

However, the team made the news after many praised the performances of Plessis, who showed maturity of making it big, just like his good friend and teammate, AB De Villiers.

Also, the rise of Tahir has been well documented as the player stormed into the International arena with some scintillating displays with the ball.
