Cricket South Africa delighted with the team’s fight in the Adelaide Test – Cricket News Update
Jacques Faul, the acting Chief Executive Officer of the Cricket South Africa, is all praise for the Proteas’ performance in the second Test of the crucial series against Australia at the Adelaide Oval and believes that the boys have proved that they are the worthy number one ranked Test team of the world.
Australia have so far dominated both the Test matches but showing a strong character, Graeme Smith and company have been able to avoid defeat in the series, which is going to decide the world’s best team of the 5-day format.
Before the start of play on the last day of the Adelaide Test, the home team needed just six wickets to seal the match and take an unassailable lead. Taking into account a wearying fifth day pitch, it was widely expected that the Kangaroos would run through the South African batting line-up.
However, that was not to be as Faf du Plessis, AB de Villiers and Jacques Kallis batted out of their skins to save the Test for their side.
The acting CEO was all praise for Du Plessis, who was making his Test debut and said that the middle-order batsman showed a lot of courage.
“Faf played with great skill, determination and pride, and the hallmark was the calmness he displayed, particularly in guiding the tail-enders through an extremely difficult last hour,” Faul commented.
South Africa, who attained the top ranking in Tests earlier this year after beating England, are a fantastic unit in Faul’s opinion.
He mentioned, “These are all the characteristics that have made our Test side such a world-class unit over the past few years and demonstrated just how hard they are to beat.”
The official further added that the on-going battle between two of the world’s best teams have been a closely fought one and hopes that the visitors will dismantle the Baggy Greens at Perth to win the series.
“This has been an engrossing series of Test cricket to date which underlines the greatness of the five-day format, and all South Africans will be looking forward to another keen encounter at Perth from Friday,” Faul added.
