Cricket South Africa external audit reports delayed by a week - Cricket News Update
The all famous Indian Premier League (IPL) has once again found itself entangled into yet another financial controversy. Based on recent reports, the results from the audit for the irregular bonuses paid to the Cricket South Africa (CSA) staff during the IPL’s second season, staged in South Africa due to security reasons, have been delayed by a week. The news was further confirmed by the CSA Audit Committee member, Archie Pretorius, who revealed that the delay came after the external audit team from KPMG requested for an extension in order to carry out a full investigation into the issue.
Initially, the matter surfaced earlier this year after Majola was accused of having paid himself and other CSA officials, large sums of money as bonuses, without the board's knowledge. However, the CEO later paid back his bonus after the announcement of a public inquiry and stated the he was not aware of the issue.
Furthermore, the allegation took much hype after the CSA President, Mtutuzeli Nyoka, accused Majola for lying over the payments to the officials. Nyoka cited that none of the CSA staff was paid.
Being the highlight of the issue, Majola was accused of drawing a 4.7 million Rands worth of payment for himself and to the other 40 CSA staff, by the IPL organizers. The event came as the second season to the http://www.senore.com/Cricket/India-c750.
As for now, the KPMG audit team is scheduled to meet Majola this week as part of their much thorough investigation into the matter.
The KPMG officials come as part of the external audit team which was previously called off due to the axing of Nyoka from the Board’s presidency. Now that Nyoka retains his post after a court action, the audit team has been reinstated. .
The KPMG audit report is now scheduled to be prepared by July 25, and will be presented to the South African Sports Minister Fikile Mbalula by the CSA.
