Cricket South Africa pays tribute to Graeme Smith – Cricket News Update
Upon completing 100 Tests for his country, http://www.senore.com/Cricket/GC-Smith-c1473 has been congratulated by Jacques Faul, Cricket South Africa’s (CSA’s) Chief Executive Officer, who believes that the left-handed opener has been a great servant of Proteas cricket over the years.
The 31-year-old achieved the feat in the on-going first Test of the series against http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Ian-Harold-King-c63858 Nation’s only sixth cricketer to have completed a century of Test matches.
The left-handed opener made his way to international sport in 2002 and replaced http://www.senore.com/Cricket/ICC-World-Cup-2011-c100625 Cricket World Cup 2003 at home.
While paying tribute to one of South Africa’s great sons, Faul expressed that the cricketer from Transvaal has done a commendable job for the country, both as a batsman and as a captain.
“Graeme is a true giant of the game,” the CEO said. “His current test match batting average of a fraction under 50 is outstanding, particularly if one takes into account the responsibilities of leadership he has had to handle as well.”
The aggressive batsman has already scored more than 15 thousand runs at the ultimate level of the game, with brilliant averages in all three formats, to go with his 33 international centuries.
On top of that, Smith is the most successful captain of South Africa’s cricketing history, taking the Proteas to new heights in the last 10 years. In the 91 Tests he has captained, his side has won 42 out, losing only 25.
Faul further added that http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Smith-c90598 still has a lot of time left in international cricket and hopes that the left-hander will keep performing for South Africa in future.
“He is http://www.senore.com/Cricket/South-Africa-c757’s most successful captain of all time. In this modern era there are few leaders who stand the test of longevity as Smith has done. He has been our captain for nearly 10 years now and remarkably is still only 31 years young. We look forward
to his continued contribution in the years ahead,” he added.
