Cricket South Africa to meet on Tuesday to decide on appointment of new coach
The interview committee of Cricket South Africa is due to meet on Tuesday, May 17, 2011, to decide on the next national coach, however, the announcement of the new Proteas coach is expected to be made on June 6, according to sources
inside CSA.
"The panel will meet today [Tuesday] to have a discussion around the interviews that were conducted," an inside source told a leading cricket website today.
Earlier a specially appointed interview panel met the shortlisted candidates for the coaching role in Johannesburg and completed the interview process on Monday, May 16.
The panel includes Cricket South Africa chief, Gerald Majola, cricket committee chairman Andy O'Connor, CSA players' association representative http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Boeta-Dippenaar-c1178 and the outgoing Proteas coach Corrie van Zyl. Convenor of CSA selectors
Andrew Hudson and a human development expert, Professor Johann Coetzee were also part of the interview committee.
The http://www.senore.com/Cricket/South-Africa-c757 board has not yet revealed the names on the shortlisted candidates in the run however it has been reported that a total of six candidates have been shortlisted for the coveted role as van Zyl’s successor.
The only clues about the shortlist came from the interview venue in Johannesburg. Former India coach, http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Pakistan-c755 coach, Richard Pybus, were seen
at the venue. Kirsten is widely considered to be the frontrunner for the role. The sources have also revealed that all the interviews were conducted in person.
The 46-year old Pybus, who has been coaching since his mid twenties, is currently mentoring a Cape Town based Cobras franchise. He has been involved with South African cricket team since 2003 and was also named as CSA coach of the
year in 2009. He is widely acknowledged for his innovative and creative coaching techniques.
