Cricket Special Edition: Does PCB chairperson http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Ijaz-Butt-c64128
understand cricket or not?
The match-fixing scandal pulled off by the Pakistani players in the ongoing tour of England has raised serious questions regarding the management of http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Pakistan-c755’s cricket. In light of previous decisions taken by PCB, one might worry about the credentials of
PCB chairperson and management. Decisions such as Younis Khan and Mohammad Yousuf’s life-bans and other controversial decisions taken by the current chairperson Ijaz Butt have given many to think about his understanding of cricket and management.
A short research on Butt shows his involvement in cricket was not from just 2008, as he was appointed by Pakistani President Asif Ali Zardari, who is also the patron of Pakistani cricket. He has been in and out of cricket since 1955, firstly as a cricketer,
than as a manager and now as the chairperson of PCB. Meaning the PCB current chairperson knows Pakistani cricket from the bottom to the top. His affiliation to cricket from 1955 to present date refers to him being a part of Pakistan’s cricket for more than
50 years.
http://www.senore.com/Cricket/March-c74391, 1938. At the age of 72, Butt is the current chairperson of Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB). He has played 8 international test matches for Pakistan's national team, making his
test debut in February, 1959 against the http://www.senore.com/Cricket/West-Indies-c760 at Karachi, Pakistan. He has played test cricket for 3 years, his last appearance in test cricket was against England at the Oval in August of 1962. With more than 10 years of first-class cricket to his
name, Butt was a right-handed wicket-keeper batsman for Pakistan. Ijaz Butt was considered as a dependable batsman more than a capable wicketkeeper.
He has also served as the secretary of the Board of Control for PCB between 1984 and 1988. Butt toured http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Australia-c746 in 1982 as a manager of the Pakistani team and has successfully headed the selection committee twice for Pakistan. For the past two years Butt
has been the chairperson of PCB, taking his appointment in 2008, Butt has led to many controversial decision since his advent as chairman PCB.
Butt is in http://www.senore.com/Cricket/India-c750 to meet International Cricket Council (ICC) chief Sharad Pawar. While one waits for any official statement by the PCB chairperson, he meets Pawar on Thursday, 16th of September, 2010, to discuss the spot-fixing scandal of three
national players of Pakistani team. Butt checked in a hotel in India on Wednesday, 15th of September 2010, as he waits to meet Pawar who is also in the city. ESPN Cricinfo has learnt, when contacted Pawar’s office that there is no meeting planned
by Pawar with any cricketing personnel for at least the next three days. Chairman PCB visits in the light of the spot-fixing scandal in which 4 Pakistani cricketers were questioned by http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Scotland-c756 Yard, and three were suspended by the ICC, namely fast bowlers
Mohammad Amir, Mohammad Asif and Test skipper Salman Butt.
He has more experience regarding Pakistani cricket than anyone else nearby. Butt has taken responsibility and action whenever required for the betterment and future of Pakistani cricket. The veteran wicketkeeper batsman has known Pakistan’s cricket since
its beginning, and is by far the best personnel for the job.
Maybe many might argue that he is not the right candidate to take charge and control the situation Pakistan’s cricket is in. But to be honest, he is not the one who is involved or accused of match-fixing scandals. It is the cricketers of this talented cricketing
country, which have ruined the sanctity of national cricket by being involved in unlawful and illegal activities.
The ICC is bound to take severe action on the three Pakistani culprits, so that such an offense is not committed again. To support Butt's chair, one should give light to what legend Englishmen Ian Chappell has said. Chappell believes once a cricketer has
crooks and bookies in his pocket, they just end-up with them. And it is very difficult to rescue such players. On the contrary, that many international former and senior players have also urged ICC to take firm action so that viewers of cricket worldwide do
not lose interest and trust in cricket and ICC. One can only wait and see how the ICC takes action of the match-fixing scandal. But one can be positive about Butt’s know-how of cricket.
